A Call to Action: How You can Help

We are asking you to get involved in 3 ways:

  1. Please support the Center in this time of extraordinary need. Make a donation today to our Emergency Fund. Go to the Friends of Batahola website (friendsofbatahola.org) to make your donation. Or mail a donation to Friend of Batahola, P.O. Box 36159, Cincinnati, Ohio, 45236-0159.
  2. Contact your congressmen/women to ask what they are doing to help end the uncontrolled violence in Nicaragua. Urge them to use the Magnitsky Act to investigate and hold responsible those committing human rights violations in Nicaragua. Friends of Batahola Nicaraguan contacts feel the U.S. government is one of the few institutions that can make a difference in resolving this conflict. The United Nations, European Union, and the Organization of American States are all conducting investigations in Nicaragua.

NOTE: The Magnitsky Act allows the U.S. government to sanction foreign government officials implicated in human rights abuses anywhere in the world. The U.S. government has already imposed sanctions citing the Magnitsky Act on three top Nicaraguan officials

To find the phone number of your congressman/woman, go to: www.house.gov or call 202-224-3121.

  3. Pray daily for the safety of the people in Nicaragua and for a quick and lasting resolution to the conflict. Our friends in Nicaragua struggled daily with poverty before the crisis. The crisis is inflicting even greater human suffering on the people, as not even basic human needs and rights are being met.
